Green Stick Fishing

Developed in Japan in the 1980s, Green Stick fishing is still relatively unknown to the vast majority of commercial and non-commercial fishermen who target tuna, or "ahi" in Hawaiian. The Green Stick setup consists of a 25-45 foot specially engineered fiberglass pole that serves as a vertical outrigger, a long length of surface handline with several surface lures (or squid) attached to branch lines, and a wooden "bird" or drag at the end that keeps the line taught during trolling. When properly engaged, the tight line presents a "school" of squid baits skipping along the water that's irresistible to hungry ahi.

The Green Stick gets its name from the olive green color of the pole when originally manufactured in Japan. It is the main component of the green stick fishing method, employing a critical balance of strength and flexibility. Don't be fooled by cheap imitations -- the original green stick made in Japan has been perfected with hard research and development to ensure maximum and constant tension on the line....a must for the success of the entire fishing system.
